Sloatsburg Honors Thomas F. Bollatto for 50 Years of Service

The Sloatsburg Chamber of Commerce Reboots to Provide Support to Businesses and Become a Vital Community Voice

Sloatsburg turned out for another successful Halloween Parade

The 32nd Annual Sloatsburg Halloween Parade got started down Route 17 from the Community Fields, led by the Ramapo Police Department.

The Village of Sloatsburg once again had an enthusiastic turn out for its 32nd annual Halloween Parade. The march and community walk down Route 17 took place this past Saturday, October 28, just before the Sunday rain set in.

Once again the Suffern High School Marching Band led the way. Here’s hoping all have a very satisfying Halloween. Continue Reading

Should it stay or go? The Village wants to know your opinion on the Roller Skate Rink at the Community Fields

The Village of Sloatsburg’s skate park has fallen into disrepair due to its particular location at the Community Fields — the concrete surface has undergone repeated flooding and cycles of freezing and thawing, leaving the rink unrepairable.

Note: This article has been updated. The Sloatsburg Roller Skate Park is a colorful illustration of Mother Nature’s persistent power to undermine and undo things made by human hands. The Skate Rink at the Community Fields was built in the 1980s during the resurgence of public skating and roller blading. It now exists in a state of limbo — currently both unusable and unrepairable. The Bluegrass Festival Takes Center Stage in Sloatsburg

A Solstice Afternoon of Music and Nature at Harmony Hall

Stop over at Harmony Hall for an afternoon seasonal celebration of summer. The Friends of Harmony Hall and Town of Ramapo sponsor the Saturday, June 17, event — Music for the Summer Solstice. The event is free and open to the public and is set to include a nature walk around the Harmony Hall grounds and peek at the curator’s Blunt Mountain Mint plantings — mountain mint is native to the Highlands with a variety growing in the nearby Ramapo Mountains … there’s even a report of the Hoary Mountain Mint growing wild up on Torne. The Blunt Mountain Mint in the Curator’s garden is on the New York/New Jersey threatened species list. Continue Reading

Sloatsburg’s Memorial Day Carried On Monday At The Fire Hall

The Village of Sloatsburg didn’t let morning rain ruin its Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 29. Although the Village cancelled the scheduled parade, the local Fire Hall was filled by residents and veterans, scouts, the Suffern High School Band, and guest dignitaries to mark the occasion.

Memorial Day parades across Rockland County ran into rain Monday morning, experiencing lots of cancellations. But the Village of Sloatsburg carried on by holding its annual Memorial Day celebration at the Sloatsburg Fire Hall. Continue Reading

NYSDOT Region 8 Complete Streets Gives Sloatsburg Opportunity To Participate In Re-imagining Route 17

NYSDOT Region 8 will host Sloatsburg’s Complete Streets Public Workshop II – Concept Evaluation on Thursday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall.

Whether from curiosity or to make a contribution, Sloatsburgers showed up en masse at the first Complete Streets Public Workshop. The meeting was hosted by a team from the New York Department of Transportation Region 8 and focused on an open conversation about community transportation issues along Route 17. Continue Reading
