Seniors and family members enjoyed a lunch at the Sloatsburg Senior Center, complete with birthday, cake as residents who turn 90 years old this year were celebrated.

There must be something to Ramapo Mountain  water in the Village of Sloatsburg. On a recent May Wednesday, the Sloatsburg Center Center celebrated those community members who turned (or will turn this year) 90 years old. Sloatsburger and Suffern High School senior Kevin Jefferson just topped 1000 career points in a recent Mountie basketball win over Clarkstown South. Sloatsburg Mayor Carl Wright congratulated Jefferson’s winning effort, giving a bit of game night color commentary of the occasion in a letter to Sloatsburg Elementary School Principal Mr. Joseph Lloyd, present and past teachers, schools, staff, and students.

Sloatsburg’s old main drag — along Rt. 17 in 1929. 2014 marks the village’s 85th year as an official village in the Town of Ramapo.

Back 85 years ago yesterday, October 2, 1929, Sloatsburg residents voted to become the 4th village in the Town of Ramapo. At that time, Sloatsburg’s population was approximately 1600 total residents, said Sloatsburg Mayor Carl Wright. Continue Reading
