Updated date due to rain. The Sloatsburg Plein Air Show takes place on Sunday, August 23. Same time, same place!

The local Plein Air art show came on the scene just a few short years ago. Hosted and curated by Jessie Taylor and Peter Bush, the show offered an afternoon of open air painting on Harmony Hall’s Great Lawn.

Last summer saw the show gain traction and attract a mix of art lovers from across the Hudson Valley. It’s a good draw for Sloatsburg – a celebration of art, history and the surrounding hills. But Jessie Taylor always imagined the Plein Air show might fill up all of Sloatsburg, with its assortment of interesting features and historical places. Paint in the open air and take in the village while you’re at it.

The outdoor art show got rained out on its original date so takes place on Sunday, August 23, from 12-5pm throughout Sloatsburg, complete with cautious optimism and a commitment to the health and safety of attendees and participants. Harmony Hall has also expanded sponsorship, primarily anchoring the event with participation of Rockland County Tourism, and help from the Sloatsburg Chamber of Commerce and Town of Ramapo.

The partnership with Rockland County Tourism is particularly beneficial to Sloatsburg, as well as to the county’s tourism effort to promote healthy tourism and dining during this difficult time.

The 3rd Annual En Plein Air Art Eventis expected to feature artists at work in different areas of Sloatsburg, some painting local features, old and new, such as the Sloatsburg Cemetery, Sloats Dam and Harmony Hall. There will also be painters stationed at The Village Blend, the Sloatsburg Library, Valley Rock Inn, Seven Lakes Station, and more.

Check out the nifty Plein Air map for a full look at participating places around the village.

Taylor’s idea was to immerse people from across the Hudson Valley in the art, history and culture of Sloatsburg, with people painting, sketching, photographing, and even sculpting various historic sites and places of interest throughout the village.

There will also be live musicĀ at The Village Blend, and music set for the great lawn of Harmony Hall.

Even with the recent downturn of business activity and visitors, the Sloatsburg Plein Air Show is a great event that is focused on outdoor activity and safety for participants and attendees. Keep it in mind for something to do to get you out of the house into the village come the dog days of August..
