Suffern Police Piece Together Strange Tale Of Suspicious Death

Suffern Police Chief Clarke Osborn will hold a press conference Wednesday at 10 a.m. to discuss the suspicious death and strange story of a couple who jumped from the George Washington Bridge to their deaths Monday morning sometime after 11 a.m.

Ramapo Central Adopts Proposed Budget

This year’s Ramapo Central School Board budget process has ended. The Board of Education voted Thursday, April 24, to adopt the proposed 2014-2015 budget, which totals $130,372,327 and represents a 1.85% budget-to-budget increase from the 2013-14 school year. The tax levy levy increase will tick in at 0.82%.

Chronic underfunding by New York State, mostly due to the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) law, has forced the Ramapo Central to spend down its savings, resulting in a “planned deficit.”

Suffern Middle School 6th grade teacher Peggy Sheehy was written up recently in The Journal News about how she weaves lessons on myths and heros into the world of gaming. According to Journal News reporter Gary Stern, Sheehy is the co-creator of a curriculum that ties in the “World of Warcraft” to the Common Core learning standards for 6th graders in her double-period humanities class.
