Remembering Brink’s Tragedy 32 Years Later

Rockland reporter Bill Demarest attended the recent Sunday, October 20, ceremony to recognize and remember the men who died during the long-ago Brink’s armored truck robbery. The incident shocked the local law enforcement community and was a factor in the eventual demise of the Village of Nyack police force.

Rainbow Ace Renovating For Hopeful Holiday Opening In Suffern

Plastic sheeting covers the windows and doors of the old Off-Track Betting building across from the railroad tracks in Suffern along Franklin Turnpike — or Orange Avenue, if you like. Work lights burn inside as the building’s new owner is busy renovating the space into a Rainbow Ace garden and home supplies sort of modern living 25,000 square foot hardware store.

School Board Seeks Applicants For Seat

Here’s one way a highly motivated individual interested in community service can dodge the electoral process and pin his or her hopes on an appointment. The Ramapo Central School District Board of Education is seeking applicants for a position recently vacated due to resignation. RCSDboard

A 79-year-old Congers resident was cheated out of $1,500 in ‘grandparents’ telephone con.

CONGERS – A con artist using a common telephone scam that preys on the concern grandparents have for their grandchildren has stolen $1,500 from a 79-year-old Congers resident.

Liberty Rock Park Trashed By Party Litter  

Someone failed to follow, or even remember, the unwritten park etiquette: carry in, carry out.

The Friends of Harmony Hall have been working to improve a trail that will lead up to the scenic Sloatsburg overview on the rock outcrop known as Liberty Rock. The Harmony Hall trail up to Liberty Rock would begin near the Sloatsburg Senior Center and follow a ravine up through the woods, looping around to Liberty Rock and the scenic overlook. Sloatsburglars Confess To Rockland Crimes

According to sources, one or both of the men arrested for home burglary in Ho-Ho-Kus this week have confessed to similar break-ins in Rockland County. Birds Of A Feather

Like a Lloyd and Harry criminal pair from the movie Dumb and Dumber, two men arrested in Ho-Ho-Kus this week may also have been behind the recent uptick in Sloatsburg burglaries. According to sources, similarities in various burglaries in Saddle River, Ho-Ho-Kus, Sloatsburg, and other municipalities, could link the duo, who were charged with pilfering small items such as an iPad, jewelry and cash.

The reported break-ins involved not only similar small items taken but also homes were burgled in the daytime, left unlocked or had a broken window as entry point. Continue Reading
