School Board Seeks Applicants For Seat

Posted on 10 October 2013 by Editor

Here’s one way a highly motivated individual interested in community service can dodge the electoral process and pin his or her hopes on an appointment. The Ramapo Central School District Board of Education is seeking applicants for a position recently vacated due to resignation. RCSDboard

The term of appointment will expire with the May 20, 2014 school board election. The deadline to submit a letter of interest and resume to the District Clerk has been set for Friday, October 18.

School Board member Pam Frederick has been named the new Executive Director of the Rockland County School Boards Association. Frederick is unable to simultaneously hold that post and serve on a school board and has subsequently resigned her seat on the Ramapo Central School Board.

Individuals interested in being considered for appointment to the vacant Board of Education position are invited to submit a letter of interest and resume to the District Clerk by no later than 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013. Materials should be addressed to: Mr. Kelly Seibert, Assistant Superintendent for Business, Ramapo Central School District, Hillburn, NY 10931.

The Board of Education will review applicant materials and select candidates to interview. Public notice will be given for the date, time and location of applicant interviews. The Board’s decision on appointing an individual to serve will be made in accordance with Education Law.

Per New York State Education Law, candidates for the Ramapo Central School Board must meet all of the following eligibility criteria to serve on a board of education:

1)  Must be a qualified voter of the School District, which means that the individual must be a U.S. citizen age 18 or older;

2)  Must be a current resident of Ramapo Central School District and have lived within the School District for a continuous and uninterrupted period of one (1) year prior to appointment;

3)  Must not have been removed from any School District office within the last year;

4)  Must not reside with a family member who is a current Board of Education member;

5)  Must not be a current Ramapo Central School District employee; and,

6)  Must not hold another incompatible public office
