An oil tanker truck traveling the roads of Rockland County tipped over and spilled its fuel contents across Route 59 Thursday afternoon near Nanuet, closing down the major traffic artery for most of the day.
The fuel tanker from NorthEastern Fuel had a 5,000 gallon capacity and was carrying an estimated 3,000 gallons of No. 2 diesel fuel, which splashed out of of the toppled truck. Continue Reading

Suffern Police Chief Clarke Osborn will hold a press conference Wednesday at 10 a.m. to discuss the suspicious death and strange story of a couple who jumped from the George Washington Bridge to their deaths Monday morning sometime after 11 a.m.

Spring Break has broken and Ramapo Central students return to school for the home stretch final quarter. To date, it’s been a good year for the district, both on the field and in the classroom.

- Suffern Middle School students learn to navigate the hero’s journey through online gaming.
Suffern Middle School 6th grade teacher Peggy Sheehy was written up recently in The Journal News about how she weaves lessons on myths and heros into the world of gaming. According to Journal News reporter Gary Stern, Sheehy is the co-creator of a curriculum that ties in the “World of Warcraft” to the Common Core learning standards for 6th graders in her double-period humanities class. The Village of Sloatsburg gave up its own police department around 1990 as a purported cost-saving measure. But for some residents the short-term savings in personnal and equipment had a long-term cost in loss of local control, especially as it related to the policing of Rt. 17 through the central village.
