rainbowexteriorBanners are out and flying at Rainbow this weekend as the hardware and home goods store at the corner of Park Place on Orange Avenue in Suffern celebrates is Grand Opening.

Owned and operated by the Dizzia family, the expansive two-level store has been open since January but with the turn of spring has thrown open its doors to invite the community to a special Grand Opening celebration that runs all weekend.

“It’s an amazing family,” said Suffern Mayor Trish Abato about the Dizzias, who also operate a Rainbow Ace Hardware store in New York City that has been a staple of its neighborhood for some 20 years. Abato said the Suffern store has been an engine of both part-time and full-time employment from around the area, including Suffern, Sloatsburg and Hillburn.

“They’ve given an opportunity to everyone,” Abato said about employees at the store who range from high school students to senior citizens. “I think it’s wonderful. And they’ve really customized their store to the needs of Suffern,” the Mayor added.

The store will offer customers specials savings incentives throughout the weekend, with Saturday pegged as a fully packed day of festivities, including a bouncy house, carnival games, hotdogs, popcorn, and an all-day DJ — all to draw in customers and show off the new store.

The addition of Rainbow to Suffern was part of a village revitalization effort started under former Mayor Dagan Larcorte and continued under the current village mayor and board. The store occupies a once blighted corner of the village with colorful retail space and appears to be finding its footing.

The Rainbow Grand Opening celebration takes place Friday, April 25, through Sunday, April 27. Saturday the store will fill the parking lot with a carnival atmosphere. All three days will provide various savings for customers.
