The Sloatsburg Scholarship Fund is a local non-profit organization that sponsors scholarships specifically for Sloatsburg students. SSF scholarships range from graduating 5th graders at Sloatsburg Elementary School to Suffern High School seniors and other Ramapo Central students, and award nominal amounts that go to help offset the initial costs of higher education.

Elementary award winners are notable kids who cultivate and articulate a unique educational awareness. Student winners are selected by teachers and scholarship sponsors. Sloatsburg students are selected by the SSF committee itself  and the scholarships are awarded at the annual Evening of Excellence awards dinner and ceremony that takes place at the William L. Ransom auditorium at Suffern High School.

SSF raises funds through both private donations and public fundraising events.

Annual Village Wide Garage Sale

This village wide sale involves the participation of residents throughout Sloatsburg who all set up a garage/yard sale on the same May weekend day. Each participant registers for the sale and their $15 registration fee goes toward funding Sloatsburg scholarships. Part of the event includes a Garage Sale map complete with the location of participants and special notice of select items available.

Each garage sale participant will be included in a special event directory that will be available the day of the event at Hayward’s Deli and Sterlington Station.

The daylong village wide sale runs from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m.

Annmarie McAnany, president of the Sloatsburg Scholarship Fund, a local non-profit organization, said the town wide garage sale is a great community effort to let people know about the scholarship fund.

Characters Fundraiser

Popular local restaurant Characters, located in the central village in Sloatsburg, has hosted an annual fundraiser in support of the Sloatsburg Scholarship Fund. On the day of the fundraiser, Characters donates 15% of the bill of dinners from 4 p.m. through 10 p.m. toward the SSF. The event includes both diners at the restaurant and take out orders.
