The recent clear weather and attendant snow melt revealed an interesting issue at the Rockland County Co-composting Facility in Hillburn, NY. Two large sections of the facility’s roof apparently buckled and collapsed during February’s heavy snows. Continue Reading

Classes were underway for little more than an hour Friday morning at George F. Baker High School in Tuxedo, NY when students and staff heard an ominous creaking sound coming from the ceiling.
Everyone rushed out of the second floor room and shortly afterwards the ceiling in room 220 buckled and partially collapsed, showering the room with insulation. There were no injuries due to the quick thinking of all involved. Continue Reading

The ragged Rockland County roads are in the middle of some much needed TLC as the call to fix potholes has echoed from village to town.

One common complaint heard by many Sloatsburgers is the condition of local roads. The winter weather and recent sewer work has created perfect conditions for asphalt upheaval. The sudden warmer weather throughout the Lower Hudson Valley has apparently also heated up the political landscape.
Chris Day, son of newly-elected Republican Rockland County Executive Ed Day, just announced his bid to unseat longtime Democratic Congresswoman Nita Lowey, who currently represents the weird ribbon of New York’s 17th Congressional District. The district includes all of Rockland County, slices of Westchester County, including all of White Plains, and used to be the stomping ground of Representative Eliot Engel. Both Representatives Engel and Lowey were redistricted this past year into their current districts. Continue Reading
