Winterfest is coming to Sloatsburg Saturday. The holiday event should be a fun, festive afternoon along the newly stamped Village Walk, a slice of pedestrian corridor that runs from the Commuter Lot to Route 17 at The Village Blend.

The event was inspired by last year’s magical Valley Rock Inn-sponsored Festival of Lights, and is sure to include lots of holiday lights, music and other nice touches, such as space heaters to warm your hands while you wander. Look for vendors to be housed under large tents set up complete with heaters. all protected from ornery weather.

Local arts educator Tenley Escoffery will host a free children’s craft table where kids will be able to create fun holiday cards and decorations.

Winterfest at Village Walk is sponsored by the Sloatsburg Chamber of Commerce and has been a collaborative effort that will see some 20 venders, including a few choice food options, holiday gift shopping opportunities, a dedicated Children’s Craft table run by Sloatsburg art educator Tenley Escoffery, some wandering characters from the Victorian era, a visit from Santa, Ugly Sweater Contest, and a book signing at Village Blend after 6 p.m.

Winterfest runs from 1 – 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, and should fit right in with Sloatsburg’s significant weekend holiday activities which peak Sunday evening with Harmony Hall’s Victorian Holiday celebration and Sloatsburg’s picturesque annual Caroling and Tree Lighting celebrations.

Kudos to artist Jessie Taylor, who collaborated wth the Sloatsburg Chamber to create a bit of Whoville for Winterfest at Village Walk. Taylor hosts a colorful podcast on regional art, paints, leads a Tuesday yoga class at Harmony Hall, and advocates for artists.

Sloatsburg artist Jessie Taylor will provide a bit of Whoville for Winterfest at Village Walk with a board painting on the iconic Grinch Who Stole Christmas story. Local artisan and community enthusiast Kathy Goldman reached out to Taylor about bringing some Fah who for-aze to Sloatsburg for the occasion, a sort of gesture to the indomitable spirit in the figures of Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch himself. Whoville in Sloatsburg.

Taylor has been busy helping promote art and artists in Sloatsburg. She worked with Peter Bush and the Friends of Harmony Hall this past August to stage an exhibit and colorful plein air painting afternoon on the Great Lawn at Harmony Hall, featuring local and guest artists. Taylor has also worked with the Sloatsburg Chamber and Harmony Hall to establish a series of popular Tuesday restorative yoga classes at the Jacob Sloat House — classes run through mid-December.
