Sloatsburg Mayor Carl Wright sent out a weather alert Wednesday evening, with calls from NY-Alert going out to village residents regarding the nor’easter now known as Athena. Sloatsburg residents were alerted that the National Weather Service is forecasting a snowstorm with snow accumulations of 3 – 6 inches.

The peak of the storm is estimated to be at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, with potential wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph.

The Sloatsburg Ambulance Corp Building, located at Seven Lakes Drive and Washington Avenue, will be open for residents who may need a place to go.

Light snow began falling in Sloatsburg at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in windy swirls, and continued steadily into the evening hours, eventually turning to an icy concoction. The Sloatsburg Department of Public Works began making rounds Wednesday evening throughout the village, scattering salt on slick roads.

The winter weather advisory issued November 7 at noon is in effect until Thursday morning, November 8 at 6:00 a.m.
