NANUET – This winter’s severe cold is hurting Rockland families who can’t afford to buy warm coats, according to Rockland People to People.

The Nanuet-based food pantry has sent out a call this weekend for donations of used coats that can be distributed to local residents.

“It is cold outside! Not as cold as it was earlier this week but we’ve got weeks to go before winter is over,” Diane Serratore, executive director of People to People said on Saturday. “If you’ve got clean, gently-used winter coats – coats for kids, teens, adults – please consider donating them to People to People.”

Serratore said hundreds of struggling Rockland parents are asking People to People for help in providing warm winter clothing for their kids. As the organization’s clients pick up their monthly food packages, they also have the opportunity to select a few items of clothing from the People to People Clothes Closet for their family members.

However, Serratore said the Clothes Closet is running very low on clean, gently-used winter coats.

“So, if you have a winter coat or two that your kids have outgrown or one that you just don’t wear anymore – please consider donating it to People to People,” Serratore said. “Our clients are most concerned about getting coats for their kids but the grown-ups need coats, too.”

Clothing donations are accepted Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at People to People, 121 West Nyack Road, Nanuet.
