The Sloatsburg Public Library hosted its first Farmers Market Saturday in mid June and by all accounts it looks like a success, though sustained vendor participation and community attendance will be the real gauge. As it is with farmers market dynamics, the more popular the market becomes with the community, the more vendors of all sorts will want to participate.

The Sloatsburg Library Famers Market sets up at the library Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through November 17. Sloatsburg Library Director Annmarie McAnany said many vendors have approached her over the last couple of years about Sloatsburg hosting a farmers markets. So after surveying staff, vendors and some patrons, she decided to give the effort a go.

Although Auntie El’s is just down Route 17 to the south, many Sloatsburgers have talked for years about the benefits of a weekend market somewhere in the village. The Sloatsburg Library Farmers Market is currently anchored by Do Re Mi Farms and also features several other popular vendor, providing fresh eggs and baked goods.

With Sloatsburg undergoing renewal along the village center corridor, a farmers market on Route 17 should act as a beacon of Saturday activity, helping to connect the community to the library while drawing people into Sloatsburg.

The Sloatsburg Library Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located in front of the SPL along Route 17 at 1 Liberty Rock Road. Look for information and updates about the Sloatsburg Library Farmers Market at its Facebook page.
