Village Board Wants Your Input

Posted on 12 November 2012 by Editor

With the year winding down, the Sloatburg Village Board in its current makeup meets Tuesday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall.

The evening’s agenda will include a Public Hearing related to Trustee and Mayoral salaries — a notice for this part of the meeting has been posted on the front door of the Municipal Building. Additionally, the board invites public comments on street signage for the neighborhood along Academy and Ballard Avenues.

In May of this year, residents who live in the Academy and Ballard area, along with their Mill Street neighbors, packed the Village Hall with a petition to stop the speeding that occurs in the narrow streets of their neighborhoods. The Village Board took notice and installed a new stop sign at Academy and Ballard, along with additional signage in the form of the word SLOW, which has been painted in several places on the neighborhood streets.

Trustee Peter Akey said the board would like additional input from residents to appraise efforts to date, and to determine what else can be done.

The minimum allowable speed for the neighborhood by NY State law is 25mph. After the Commuter Parking Lot was paved, a new no right turn sign was also installed at the entrance to Mill St.

The board welcomes resident input on the topic to gauge current traffic conditions in the neighborhood, and to determine if and what kind of additional measures might be taken.

NOTE: The Village Board meets on Monday, December 3 for its annual reorganization meeting at which time newly elected trustees Thomas Buckley Jr. and Daniel O’Leary III will be sworn into office. The meeting, as all board meetings are, is open to the public.

Additionally, the reorganizational meeting is when other board and committee appointments are made by the Mayor Carl Wright.
