Tuxedo Park Holds Special Stream Testing Meeting

Posted on 23 March 2012 by Editor

A special Board of Trustees meeting was held Friday morning, March 23, at the Village Hall of Tuxedo Park to discuss a proposal for stream testing of Warwick Brook. The testing is related to the recent fish kill-off at Four Corners Pond and surrounding wetlands. Addtionally, Tuxedo Park announced it will conduct baseline studies of the top, middle, and bottom of Warwick Brook to determine what actions may be necessary to insure clean water continues to flow into Wee-Wah Lake.

The recent discovery of water contamination and dead fish along the shores of Four Corners Pond has created a firestorm of community concern and anger. To date, the Town of Tuxedo has not made an official statement regarding the issue. When contacted, the Tuxedo Supervisor’s office said that Supervisor Dolan is waiting for NYS Department of Environmental Conservation tests — like everyone else. The primary culprit appears to be the mulch pit located on the town’s public works property on Long Meadow Road, which is leased out to Perfect Cut, a popular local company that provides low-cost, quality tree-trimming service.

Perfect Cut’s office manager said that the company’s recycling facility and tree-trimming division are entirely separate services.

Perfect Cut owner John Guggino was out in the field and unavailable for comment. The Perfect Cut compost facility and waste transfer station is located in Sterling Forest and adjacent to wetlands where Warwick Brook runs.

A public demonstration is planned for Sunday, March 25 at Four Corners Pond at 11 .m.
