The Old Blue Barn Is Alive Again

The old Waldron property across from the Sloatsburg Library was once the hot heart of the village. In the early 1900s, the Waldron’s (yes, the Waldron Terrace Waldron’s) big barn served as the village livery stable while the smithy occupied another, smaller building on the property. It was the heyday of horseshoes and carriages.

BlueBarnDoorThe original livery barn burnt down in the 1990s, with only the concrete foundations still standing. For years, the adjacent, smaller building was known far and wide as Blue Barn Antiques, a place to do all your antique business. It’s been closed for years now.

Well, Edith and Henry Knoblick, themselves well-known in these parts, recently purchased the entire Waldron property and are intent on livening up the Blue Barn and other buildings on the property. Look for the old Blue Barn and Waldron property to once again take its place as an important village location — lots of arts, crafts and heart.

The Knoblicks will host a Blue Barn Lawn Sale Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The mission is to clean up and clear out the Blue Barn to make way for all new inventory. So, stop by, browse, loiter, chat, look around, buy. Be neighborly and visit.

StJoanSaleMeanwhile, across the way at St. Joan of Arc Church, located behind the Sloatsburg Post Office, will hold it’s annual (semi-annual?) garage and bake sale, with proceeds going to important church projects. Most everything is re-invested in the church’s local community outreach programs.

St. Joan of Arch recently put on a nearly week long spring carnival of colors at the Sloatsburg Community Fields that brought out the locals while drawing in people from around the area.

Drop in to St. Joan of Arc just off Eagle Valley Road, then head over to the Blue Bar Lawn sale and take a tour of Henry’s and Edith’s place and listen to their plans for the place.

There’s also the Tuxedo Farmers’ Market that takes place at the Tuxedo Train Station from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. And if you happen to be up in Tuxedo, there’s BackHome Antiques, along Rt. 17 across the street from the Farmers’ Market. BackHome has two-stories of interesting antiques and collectibles to sift through.

The old Blue Barn clearing out lawn sale takes place Saturday and Sunday, September 14 & 15, from 9 a.m to 4 p.m and is located at 78 Orange Tpke, Sloatsburg, NY. St. Joan of Arc Church is located 32 Eagle Valley Road in Sloatsburg.
