Support Your Library And Local Vendors Too

HolidayBoutiquefrontThe fog has lifted as that cold front moves in. Now, think holidays.

The Friends of the Sloatsburg Public Library are, and the volunteer group has been been cooking up a special event to make your holidays a bit more cheerful.

On Saturday, December 7, from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m., the Friends will host its popular Holiday Boutique at the Sloatsburg Public Library, with some 25 vendors gathering with their homemade goods just for you.

I’m very happy with the turnout,” said longtime library employee Liz DeRuggiero, who stepped up this past year, joined the Friends group and spearheaded the holiday fundraising event.

“I wanted to help out more and I always like what they were doing,” DeRuggiero said about the Friends group, a volunteer group of library supporters which raises funds and awareness for the library. “I got tired of watching from the sidelines and decided to jump in. I’d helped out before and figured, if I help out, I might as well be a part of it.”

DeRuggiero and company has assembled a slate of vendors that include Ol Darlin’ handmade soaps, salves and balms (try them, you’ll like them). And there will be plenty of chocolate — find Joe Rutella! And baked goods. May Kay Cosmetics will be there, as will Igrid DaSilva with soy candles.

As DeRuggiero said, the day provides a relaxing atomosphere to meet local crafters who work hard fashioning an assortment of handmade goods.

“The boutique provides pre-holiday shopping where you support your local vendors, you support your local library,” DeRuggiero said. “And you know what, I always have fun. It’s going to be fun.”
