The Suffern High School Crew Team of 8 (along with a fellow team of 4) is rowing its way to the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s National Championships being held at Dillon State Park in Zanesville, Ohio over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Suffern High School Crew Team are excited to be sending 2 boats to Nationals, the first time ever that Suffern Crew (also 2010-15 Rockland County Champs) will have two Varsity Boats competing at the highest level in the country.

All the Suffern HS Crew friends and fans can contribute to the effort at the team’s GoFund site, which was set up the parent/booster non-profit Suffern HS Crew Booster Club to support Suffern crew.

The push to nationals got underway with glorious weather on Saturday, May 14 and 15, at the 2016 New York State Scholastic Rowing Association State Qualifiers and Championships in Saratogo, where some 72 teams converged to compete for a position and a place at nationals. Two Suffern High boats earned a spot in Sunday’s final races, as the weather turned from bright and blue to wet and blustery.

The Men’s Lightweight 4 again came in 3rd despite powerful winds and currents. By 10:15 the last race had run and the rest of the events for the day were cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Suffern Boys LTW 4+ led by Katie Hock (coxswain), with Matthew Dain, Justin Aronstein, Harrison Munitz, and Dan Lockyer qualified to compete at the SRAA Nationals at Nashport, Ohio on Memorial Day weekend.

Special congratulations to the Boys LTW 4+ led by Katie Hock (coxswain), with Matthew Dain, Justin Aronstein, Harrison Munitz, and Dan Lockyer who qualified to compete at the SRAA Nationals at Nashport, Ohio on Memorial Day weekend, May 27th and 28th. Based on Saturday’s time trials the Men’s 8 team also earned a spot in the Nationals event.

Additionally, the Boys Senior 8 team led by Hannah Diamond (coxswain) with  Zach Kunow, Johnny Riskin, Leonard Halim, Chris McNamara, Jason Karen, Daniel Hack, Aidan Brown, and Jason Houser finished 5th at Saratoga, also qualifying them for a bid to Nationals.

The 2016 SRRA National Championships Regatta will be held May 27-May 28 at Dillon Lake in Nashport, Ohio.

The successful weekend at the NYS crew championships also earned Suffern Crew Team first place in Rockland County for the 7th year in a row.

With less than two weeks to plan the Suffern High School Crew booster club has sorted out arrangements to get the student/athletes to Ohio but community fundraising will help with last minute significant expenses. To support the Suffern Crew Team, any donations to the GoFund effort are greatly appreciated.

The strong success of the team can be attributed to the strong coaching of Coaches Jacoby, Trainor, Rahman and McNamara. Contact Coach Craig Jacoby at Suffern High School for more details, or David Shadick, President, Suffern High Crew School Booster Club (917) 763-1472.
