Suffern Girls Tear It Up At Indoor Nationals

The Suffern girls track team’s indoor season ended with a bang last week — that is, if a season ever ends.

The Suffern girls distance medley relay team, and sophomore Kamryn McIntosh in particular, tore up the track at the New Balance Indoor Nationals at the Armory in New York City over the course of last weekend. The final results were a couple national champion races for Suffern High School, with more than one Mountie All-American representing.

There’s a nice feature of all things McIntosh at ArmoryTrack.com — in summary, at 15 years old McIntosh is the national 600 meter indoor record holder and New York State champion, national indoor champ in the 400 meter, part of the distance medley relay championship team, as well as silver medal winning sprint medley team. The Suffern girls took home a gold medal in the DMR with an 11:52, with stellar performances by Kamryn McIntosh, Imani Solan, Mary Hennelly, and Rachel Ludwikowski.

Then Nicole Becker, sophomore Kyra Greenbaum and Kamryn McIntosh, with standout senior Imani Solan, toughed out a silver medal in the national 1,600 sprint medley which involves all four running a 400 meter. Solan finished off her senior year with a 4th place finish in the 200 meter, with a blazing run of 24.08. That’s 4th at the indoor nationals.

Solan, who heads off to the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in the fall, was voted The Journal News Rockland Scholar/Athlete in February. Solan holds the Rockland County record in the 200m, is two-time state champion and three-time All-American Longtime track coach Joe Biddy called Solan the best “all-around sprinter in Rockland County history.”

With Spring finally arriving on March 21, the outdoor track season is about to open and it appears that Suffern is poised for some outstanding performances this year. Stay tuned.
