Student Musical Productions Hit The Stage

Kim and Conrad and all the rest of the cool kids take the stage Thursday night in Suffern Middle School’s Spring Musical production of Bye Bye Birdie.

HSspringmusicalsThis year’s musical will also showcase Alice Biss Adams, Suffern High School’s new all-things-choir teacher, from All County to Varsity to Select Choir. Many locally may know Biss Adams from her  years leading Sloatsburg Elementary School’s music department.


Bye Bye Birdie promises to be an energetic show with a huge cast that should bring fun to the song and dance story, loosely based on the rise of singing sensation Conway Twitty as well as the Elvis Presley phenomenon. The movie version of Bye Bye Birdie starred the young Ann-Margaret as Kim MacAfee, who is chosen to receive Birdie’s “One Last Kiss” before he’s sent off into the Army.

The 7th and 8th grade musical has its first performance Thursday night at the Suffern Middle School Auditorium with shows both Friday and Saturday night. Tickets run about $7 and can be had at the door or online.

For others, George F. Baker High School in Tuxedo will put on the stage Seussical the Musical , opening Friday at the high school at 7 p.m. The show runs Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

Beginning on Thursday next week, the Suffern High Spring Musical production of How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying will take center stage.

The show will feature a seasoned cast of theater students and pairs Suffern’s musical duo of Randy Schwartz and Daniel McCarter.
