The interior is slowly taking shape, with stacks of bamboo wood flooring in boxes ready for installation and curved bar placement all set. The freshly painted teal house on Route 17 in the center of Sloatsburg is due to open this the summer as Seven Lakes Station Taproom and Market.

Owner Martijn Mollet and Jamie Lovelace have gone all-in on their Sloatsburg investment. The couple has lived in Sloatsburg several years now, after moving here from the tropical greenery and sandy beaches of Hawaii. Both thought long and hard about a creative business that Sloatsburg might take to — and kept coming back to the idea of craft beer.

As Mollet is Belgian, the idea of opening a nice beer taproom hit home in a sensible way.

“I’d wake up and say, I wish there was some cool place in the Village for coffee or to go and hang out,” said Mollet’s parnter Jamie, a national accounts manager for Ritz Carlton Hotels in New York City for the Caribbean and Mexico. “We want to bring something fun and new to Sloatsburg.”

SevenLakesStationThe lure of the surrounding green parkland, a train station adjacent to the center village and a property on Route 17 convinced the two that a good beer marketplace would work. And it doesn’t’ hurt their cause that their immediate neighbor will be Michael Bruno‘s planned farm-to-table French Resistance Coffee House & Cafe.

Mollet said that the idea is to have 8 to 10 different regional beers on tap with growlers to go. And, of course, there will always be a special Belgian brew on hand. Seven Lakes Station will also serve area wines and have cans and plenty of other craft beer available for sale in the house market.

The couple would also like the taproom to feature plenty of local art and crafts, with good music and light fair for eating so that Seven Lakes Station becomes a place to visit for fun and relaxation — or for those in need, to just grab and go.

Both believe that Sloatsburg is poised to become a destination for people visiting Harriman State Park, and what goes better after a day of hard hiking than a great glass of beer?

Seven Lakes Station is located at 80 Orange Turnpike (Route 17), across from the Sloatsburg Library, and is scheduled to open in July.
