“This is a wonderful celebration of the academic achievements of the members of the Class of 2015,” noted Principal Patrick Breen.

Representatives from the Village of Sloatsburg, including Mayor Carl Wright and Trustees Peter Akey and Daniel O’Leary, awarded several Sloatsburg-specific scholarships from the Sloatsburg Scholorship Fund.

Sloatsburg students made a very strong showing at the awards celebration, winning anywhere from $100 and up. Hannah Consiglio won the coveted Avon Scholarship for an Outstanding Female at Suffern High School, which pays out $3000 per year for a total of $12,000. Consiglio, ranked 2nd in her class, also took home the Suffern Rotary Club Dr. Lester E. Rounds Memorial Scholarship, Suffern Rotary Club Charles B. Neff Citizenship Award and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Science Education Award.

Matt Bates, Joshua Gorelic, Matthew Leanza, and Brendan Lenihan also won multiple scholarship awards.

In addition to the awards listed in the program, a four-year Army ROTC scholarship totaling $146,000 was presented to Kevin O’Connor, who will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and earn an officer’s commission upon his graduation there.

Presenters also offered encouragement and advice to the soon-to-be grads.

“From this point on, whatever you choose to do, give it focus, give it energy, give it all you’ve got!” counseled American Legion Fromm-Maxwell-DeBaun Post 859 representative Carl Kaplan.
