Sloatsburg Readies For 29th Annual Halloween Parade

Celebrate Saturday when the Village of Sloatsburg hosts its 29th Annual Halloween Parade. The sky should clear from rainy weather with temperatures expected to hover around 60 degrees until sunset.

The walk through Sloatsburg is a tradition that brings residents together for costume and floats contests, with everyone then walking down Rt. 17 to Sloatsburg Elementary School, serenaded by the the Suffern High School Marching Band. The costume and float prizes are worth the entry, topping out at $200 apiece for Best Group,  Adult, and Kid’s costumes, as well as Best Float.

Costume judging begins at 4 p.m. at the entrance to the Sloatsburg Community Fields at the intersection of Eagle Valley Road and Rt. 17. The parade itself begins promptly at 5 p.m.

Pumpkin Decorating 

halloweenparade1Saturday’s Halloween festivities get underway at the Sloatsburg Elementary School with the annual morning pumpkin decorating from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The event is is open to all pre-school to second grade area kids.

The list of local sponsors for the Sloatsburg Halloween Parade is a nice compendium of many of the village’s main street businesses and includes: United Water NY, Characters Restaurant, Ramapo Valley Rotary, NJV Auto, Tuxedo Motor Sports, Parker Electric, Miele Sanitation, Balsamo, Byrne, Cipriani & Ellsworth, Hi Tech Security, American Drywall, Greater Hudson Bank, SDL Brokerage, Orange & Rockland Utilities, Inc., M & T Bank, Hayward’s Deli, Rococo’s Hair Salon, Davis Sport Shop, Inc., Pacific Pool & Spa, Rhodes North Tavern, and Sarkis Auto Repair.

Sloatsburg Halloween Parade, Saturday, October 25 at 5 p.m. at the Community Fields parking lot entrance. Costume judging begins at 4 p.m. Parade rain date is set for Sunday, October 26 at 1 p.m. For additional information, please call the Village Hall office at 753-2727.
