The Annual Sloatsburg Halloween Parade is cancelled but other seasonal happenings continue around the area

Last year young Sloatsburg bikers popped wheelies along the parade route. Unfortunately, this year’s Halloween Parade has been cancelled due to impending inclement weather. The Costume Contest will continue on Saturday, October 27, at the Sloatsburg Elementary School, beginning at 4 p.m.

Update: The Village has cancelled this year’s Halloween Parade down Route 17 and through Sloatsburg Streets. Instead residents are asked to participate in the Costume Contest which will be held at Sloatsburg Elementary School at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 27.

Just like that, the muggy October summer has moved on, leaving birch trees beginning to drop yellow leaves. Temperatures are dipping too as the Halloween season arrives in full.

October will leave like a lion this year, with cold rainy weather. The annual Sloatsburg Halloween Parade has been cancelled ahead of time due to the anticipated dreary Saturday weather. Instead the Village will host a Halloween Costume Contest at the Sloatsburg Elementary School, beginning at 4 p.m.

Sunday, October 28, the Village of Suffern’s annual Halloween parade takes place down down Lafayette Avenue.  Suffern got painted for the season this past Saturday with a window painting contest.

Get in the spirit on Friday and Saturday, October 26 and 27, when Tuxedo students host Haunted Hallways at George F. Baker High School. For just $10 take a tour of the spooky haunted high school hallways from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Check out the available schedule here.

The Sloatsburg Public Library will features Hudson Valley ghost investigator Linda Zimmerman on Monday, October 22, at 7 p.m. Zimmerman will hold forth in the Library’s Community Room on Haunted Objects, whereby ordinary personal and household objects become apparently haunted.

The Friends of Harmony Hall host an adults-only Halloween bash at the historical Jacob Sloat House Saturday night, October 27, beginning at 7 p.m. The costume bash is always a well-attended fun and festive evening out. Tickets cost $25 per person and come with an evening of entertainment and refreshments. Seating is limited.

Finally, look for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sloatsburg Fire Department to host a family-friendly Trunk or Treat at the Sloatsburg Fire House on Sunday, October 28, beginning at 12 noon.

Trunk-or-Treat is a safe and fun way for kids to trick-or-treat and will see vehicles decorated in creative ways by the Ladies Auxiliary and Fire Department members. There will be fire trucks, games, refreshments and more! The Ladies are asking for $4 per child (under 2 Free) and for everyone to come in costume.
