Sloatsburg Caroling And Other Village Traditions

Posted on 29 November 2014 by Editor

Now that the season’s first snow has fallen, melted and turned to crusty ice, the winter holidays are officially here. The Village of Sloatsburg has a busy week lined up that includes its annual reorganization meeting, a Veterans Day Program and, next weekend, the Sloatsburg Memorial Post 1643 Christmas Train, caroling through the village center, and the tree lighting ceremony.

VillageHallholidayseasonSloatsburg will celebrate its annual Veterans Day Program on Tuesday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall.

The village invites residents to attend Tuesday evening’s Veterans Day Program, an event that honors those local residents who have served in the military. The program will also recognize contributions and service to the Sloatsburg community from two Town of Ramapo Police officers, Chris Dodrill and Omar Olayan.

The Village of Sloatsburg invites residents to participate in the annual Caroling and Tree Lighting Ceremony, Sunday, December 7. For more information, call Village Hall at 845-753-2727.

Next weekend’s village activities begin Sunday, December 7, with Breakfast with Santa at the Sloatsburg Elementary School.  A community tradition, the breakfast is a kid-centric morning at the elementary school where parents, friends and family can meet and mingle with Santa.

Starting at 4 p.m., residents are invited to join in village song during the annual Sloatsburg Caroling and Tree Lighting Program. Carolers meet at the St. Joan of Arc Church and proceed through the village to the Sloatsburg Library and United Methodist Church, stopping at select moments for caroling.

Watch for the Sloatsburg Memorial Post 1643 Annual Christmas Train, Saturday, December 6, throughout the morning (raindate: Saturday, December 13).

The walk ends at the Municipal Building, where the group will be joined by the Suffern High School Select Choir for the Tree Lighting ceremony and afterwards an assortment of refreshments inside the Fire Hall. Even if you are unable to participate in caroling through the village, a stop by Village Hall to hear the Select Choir is worth the effort.
