Sloatsburg Burglaries

Posted on 27 August 2013 by Editor

Take a moment to lock that door, as someone around the village has apparently developed a case of the hot hands.

HazelwoodThere have been recent whispers and rumors of a rash of break-ins throughout Sloatsburg. Mayor Carl Wright said that the Ramapo Police Department met with him Monday to give a brief report of two official incidents in the Pine Grove Lakes neighborhood that took place on Friday, August 23, on Hazelwood and on Ann Place.

The Hazelwood incident took place in the afternoon between 1 and 2 p.m. while Ann Pl happened in the morning between 8:30 and 9 a.m.

According to Mayor Wright, small items and change were reportedly lifted and the police are following up on the incidents. The mayor said he relayed the police information to the Village Board, which will review the police reports at Tuesday evening’s board meeting.

Ann PlThe mayor also said that there are additional rumors of other activities but he couldn’t comment on any incidents that had no official standing.

So, there is no crime wave in the Burg. But someone certainly has a case of hot hands.

There have been “unofficial” reports recently (meaning: someone said something about so and so) that have not made it into police reports. A house on Grant Street reportedly had a break-in — read: break-in can mean anything from a door being pried open to someone sauntered through an unlocked door and made off with a favored piggy bank full of coins. Sloatsburg Elementary School reportedly also had an “incident” where a young “tough” was actually seen climbing out a broken first story window. And cars have apparently been scavenged for change and small items. File these claims under rumor.

To date, there have officially been two Pine Grove Lakes incidents that happened this past Friday that are under investigation by the Ramapo Police.

So, think about locking up or looking out.

And that, folks, is the Sloatsburg crime report to date, as the known knowns are known.
