Run steep hills, clamber over obstacles, jump smoking red hot piles of wood. If you miss an obstacle, drop and give 30 burpees. The Spartan Sprint challenge is akin to a Cross Fit workout through a hilly course littered with jumps and walls and other tests designed to thwart all comers — and to make applicants into Spartans. The popular national race comes to the tri-state area at the end of the month with Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1 races at Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center. For those who miss those dates, the race returns to Tuxedo Ridge Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8.

Bill Demarest at Nyack Free Press wrote about a Spartan team from New City that will run at the end of the month to raise funds for The Wounded Warrior Project.

NyackFreePresslogoNEW CITY – Last year, 11 Rockland residents raised more than $9,000 to fight multiple sclerosis by participating in the grueling Spartan Sprint obstacle race. This year, they’re headed back to the 4.5 mile course in hopes of raising funds to help another cause – The Wounded Warrior Project.

Dr. Michael Cocilovo and Dr. Gil Rodriguez of New City Chiropractic Center are the organizers of the New City Gladiators, who will compete again on June 1 in the Spartan Sprint in Tuxedo Park. They have also added an opportunity for others to join the team and help raise funds for the cause.

On May 31, 17 of their friends, family and patients will participate in “The Color Run” at CitiField – billed by the founders as the “Happiest 5K on the Planet.”

“The goal of The Color Run falls directly in line with the ideals we have promoted in our office for 28 years — getting people active and living a healthier lifestyle,” said Cocilovo.

During the un-timed race Color Run, participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer and waiting at the end is a “Finish Festival” complete with music and dancing.

“By having two teams and adding The Color Run we can include folks who are looking for a simpler challenge, and we believe helping others is always a good motivator!” said Cocilovo.

They have set their goal at $3,000 for The Wounded Warrior Project and are already half way there. The mission of Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded U.S. troops.

To assist with reaching their goal, New City Chiropractic Center is offering a free consultation and chiropractic treatment to new patients who visit the office in May and make a donation of any amount.
