Pine Grove Gas Line Road Work

The Pine Grove Lakes neighborhood in Sloatsburg is encountering some heavy construction on very narrow roads. With an Orange and Rockland crew channeling up Torne and Council Crest to Hillside Road to replace an old gas line, residents are getting a taste of the construction zone most other Sloatsburg residents experienced during recent sewer work throughout the village.

According to O&R Inspector Dave Turiano, the long-rumored sewer lines for the Pine Grove Lakes neighborhood appear scheduled for sometime next year as O&R planning meetings for the new gas line involved mention of probable Pine Grove sewers. “They told us to put our line to the right” Turiano said, indicating that O&R crews make room for future sewer lines.

For now, O&R is replacing the old steel gas main from the 1950s that runs from Torne up to the top of the hill above Pine Grove Lake. Periodic complaints of gas leaks in the area prompted O&R to schedule a complete overhaul of the line, which will include replacing in-house meters with curb boxes. Turiano said that after the line crew finishes, another O&R crew will continue the maintenance by updating residential connections for those people who want to move their gas meters from the basement to new, outside meters.

“We’re replacing the old steel main with a new plastic main,” Turiano said. “Some house connections and meters have been updated over the years. The next crew will be replacing meters for those houses that want to update and installing new plastic t-connections where service comes into the main.”
