New York Police Department K-9 Unit Officer Michael Cardona and his German Shepard partner, Boomer, visited with Cub Scout Pack 46 at its Sloatsburg Ambulance Corp meeting headquarters in mid-May to present an interactive demonstration and discussion on how dogs aid the NYPD in their daily activities.

Officer Cardona explained how not just any old dog can join the NYPD, explaining critical canine selection and training process, which includes age requirements — just like people. Officer Cardona showed the Pack the dog do’s and don’ts of how duty dogs are handled, as well as how Boomer and his pals often discover crucial evidence at crime scenes.

The boys were then treated to a live demonstration as Boomer discovered something that had been hidden behind a closed door at the station house.

Cub Scout Pack 45 also recently marched in the Sloatsburg Memorial Day Parade as well as Tuxedo’s.

Tuxedo Cub Scout Pack 46 has been serving boys in the Sloatsburg and Tuxedo communities for the past 20 years, and strives to offer activities and programs that help youngsters learn life skills and disciplines that help along their journeys. Currently, Pack 46 has approximately 30 boys from grades 1 through 5.
