Look for the Sloatsburg Halloween Parade Saturday

Look for Route 17 to close down in Sloatsburg Saturday, October 29, at 5 p.m. as the 31st Annual Halloween Parade gets underway.

The rains and winds have died down, bringing chill and true Halloween weather to the Hudson Valley. Celebrate Saturday when the Village of Sloatsburg hosts its 31st Annual Halloween Parade. Be sure to dress in costume and dress warm as temperatures will dip down at sunset.

2016-village-halloween-paradeThe Sloatsburg tradition brings residents together for costume and floats contests, with everyone then walking down Route 17 to Sloatsburg Elementary School, serenaded by the Suffern High School Marching Band. The costume and float prizes are worth the entry, topping out at $200 apiece for Best Adult, Group and Float. Best Kid’s costumes wins $100.

Costume judging begins at 4 p.m. at the entrance to the Sloatsburg Community Fields at the intersection of Eagle Valley Road and Route 17. The parade itself begins promptly at 5 p.m.

And your new groovy tap room, Seven Lakes Station, features the closet seats to the street action, with special Happy Hour pumpkin beer at $5. Seven Lakes will also hold its own special costume contest, along with house specials throughout the evening.

Saturday’s Halloween festivities got underway at the Sloatsburg Elementary School with the annual morning pumpkin decorating from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Sloatsburg Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will hold a special Trunk or Treat Halloween event at the Municipal Building parking lot on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be candies and cars and all sorts of fun treats. In addition, there will be a 50/50 raffle, refreshments, and more. Come in costume and join the fun. It only costs $4 per child (with under 2 years old participating for free.
