Holidays Arrive With The Weather

Posted on 27 November 2013 by Editor

The “Christmas Train,” one of those unique Sloatsburg holiday traditions, will wind its way through the village this year on Saturday, December 7. For some 60 years now, the Sloatsburg American Legion Post No. 1643 has partnered with other veteran groups and organizations — most recently with the Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department — to drive a little holiday cheer throughout the village.

holidaytrainevents2The local American Legion sponsors the gift-giving Santa train that delivers toys and fruit to village kids under 10 years of age. Legion members and volunteers ride a vintage vehicle dressed up as an old-time locomotive, while Santa delivers toys, oranges and seasons greetings to children 10 and under.

This year the American Legion has put out the call this year for donations in support of the toy drive effort. Make any donations of support to the Sloatsburg Memorial Post #1643, 15 Liberty Rock Road, Sloatsburg, NY 10974.

When the train runs through the village in early December, it will keep a tight schedule, moving through the neighborhoods along Grant Street and then along Washington Avenue and Seven Lakes Drive. It’s scheduled for Pine Grove Lakes at 11 a.m. and will hit the neighborhoods in the Flats near the Community Pool after 1 p.m.
