Suffern High School’s GlamourGals club stopped off at Esther Gitlow Towers for an afternoon of makeover magic.

Some residents of Esther Gitlow in Suffern experienced the glow of a good make-over this past week as a group of GlamourGals swept in for a bit of manicure magic.

The Suffern High School club is part of the GlamourGals national organization that was founded by Rachel Doyle. The organization involves high school age girls who volunteer, through various club activities, to go into and provide companionship and complimentary beauty makeovers to women living in senior homes.

glamourgals2The various clubs and chapters follow the GlamourGals “Hot Pink Leadership” curriculum that works to inspire and organize members through multiple mediums. The GlamourGals motto is More Than Makeup And Manicures.

The Suffern High School chapter has “adopted” Esther Gitlow Towers in Suffern as its community project. Members of the club, tools in hand, descended on the senior living center this past Monday, splashing the community room with plenty of color and smiles.

Suffern’s chapter is led by English teacher Kathy Farrow, who sees the community outreach effort as an opportunity to inspire members to lead by example while delivering creative and compassionate company to seniors.

If the grins on lighting up Esther Gitlow were any indication, Monday’s outing was a successful mission accomplished.

The Suffern GlamourGals chapter will continue to work with residents of Esther Gitlow throughout the school year, with plans in the works for a fundraiser to help buy materials for the knitting club.

There are also plans for the club to have another sit down with the Gitlow ladies and polish their nails and, hopefully, smiles.
