Go ahead, it’s already September and you need to head over to the Tuxedo Farmers’ Market this Saturday. There’s fresh produce and baked goods for Labor Day dinner, and a generally fun experience waiting. With the market season heading into the autumn homestretch, the Farmers’ Market is drawing people from throughout Orange and Rockland Counties who want to shop for locally made products.

The Tuxedo Farmers’ Market is celebrating its 8th season this year and plants itself Saturday mornings at the Tuxedo Train Station from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market runs through October 27.

New market manager Annmarie McAnany has helped create onsite buzz this summer season, acting as both market hostess as well as booking artists and event entertainment. McAnany also puts together the Farmers Market weekly newsletter that details market goings-on.

This Saturday’s market day will showcase a bit of exotic entertainment with a belly dancing demonstrating at 11:30 a.m. by Jewels of the Harem, a cabaret belly dance troupe. Troupe members Jazmin, Jalilah, and Safara will feature a a bit of dazzle with a demonstration of traditional music of the Middle East and infusing some modern twists.

Market-goers can also get wrapped up in some yarn art. Kathy from Our Father’s Farm will be on hand with her alpaca yarn products, including alpaca felted “pearls” and crystal beads, and kits for wet felting soap, kits for needle felting a small penguin and kits for crocheting hats. Kathy will also have available crocheted and knitted items, felted soap, paperweights, stress balls and, of course, alpaca yarn.

Next week get your blade sharpened so that dang kitchen knife actually work when you pull it out for a slice. Bill from Precision Knife Sharpening will be on hand the second weekend in September for some thorough knife sharpening. Bring your knives to the market to be expertly sharpened. Three knife max.

On October 27, the market’s final day, market visitors will be able to catch Chef Lisa Caccamise of Simple Earth Cuisine demonstrate how to take fresh market products and whip them up into an amazing and delicious eat.

“I love this market and everything you can buy at farm markets in general,” said Christina Tremblay, president of the Tuxedo Farmers’ Market, a non-profit organization that organizes and promotes the market. “All of the vendors bring something extra special to our market and they have personalities to match! The local community loves the market and does a great job supporting it.”

Regular Tuxedo Farmers’ Market vendors include, among others, Baker’s Bounty, Bella Mozzarella, Cedar Rock Products, Healthway Farms, Joi of Pickels, Kiernan Farm, The Little Bake Shop, The Little Grape Rice Pudding Co., Precision Knife Sharpening,  Sutton Family Farm Cheese, Tuxedo Juice  Cafe, and Sleepy Hills Orchard.

The Tuxedo Farmers’ Market takes place Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Tuxedo Train Station. Market bags are available at the manager’s tent. Parking is available in the lower commuter lot at the north end of the train station. The north end of the parking lot is no longer open because of all the new vendors. The market runs through October 27.
