Get Lost Trying to Find the Mysterious Harriman Bear Festival

myharriman no small adventureThis year’s mild winter weather has teased an early spring. And with spring comes a lot of hiking in the surrounding hills. The whole Trail Town corridor vibe has picked up momentum, with groups in Tuxedo, Sloatsburg and Suffern all working to highlight local parks and recreational assets.

As Journal News writer Robert Brum succinctly said, Rockland sits astride Harriman State Park, some 50,000 acres of forests, lakes, hiking trails, streams, scenic roads and countless places to revel in its gorgeous vistas.

Making more visitors aware of the county’s cozy connection with this great outdoor playground seems only natural.

Suzy Allman, the parks and adventure muse behind MyHarriman.com and much corridor trail town action, just test-launched a few new products to promote and finance upcoming spring Harriman State Park efforts.

Allman tweeted a retro 1952 secret Harriman State Park Festival of the Bear poster that harkens back to a mysterious (and completely fictitious) mountain festival that scandalized locals back in the day.

The Let’s Get Lost t-shirts aren’t really t-shirts, said Allman via a ping-pong text conversation, “but a sexy hiking shirt that you get out of easily just before you go swimming!”

Both pieces of MyHarriman merchandise include a touch of Allman’s humor (a fictitious bear festival and sexy swimming t shirt!) and will go toward helping to finance the popular Tuxedo-Harriman Shuttle for the upcoming spring and summer season.

Allman came up with the shuttle idea and assembled the pieces this past year, with plenty of local helping hands. The shuttle will run from the Tuxedo Train Station and loop through parts of Harriman State Park.

Look for MyHarriman swag, coming soon.
