O&R responds to gas line leak during sewer construction.

Carbro Construction’s big cat strikes again. Sewer subcontractor Carbro was digging at Grant Street and Washington Avenue Wednesday when the big cat pulled loose a gas line. The Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department and O&R responded to the call. Gas lines to those homes without gas service on the north end of Grant Street are expected to be repaired by 11 p.m. this evening.

O&R: Contractor hits gas main in Sloatsburg

 

SLOATSBURG – Natural gas service to 29 homes in Sloatsburg was interrupted on Wednesday afternoon when a gas main was damaged by a contractor, according to Orange and Rockland Utilities.

SloatsburgsewerconstructionA 2-inch main was struck by a contractor on Grant Street around 2 p.m. Sloatsburg volunteer firefighters were called to the site of the gas leak and O&R workers arrived at 2:27 p.m. The crew closed a primary gas valve, shutting off gas feeding the line.

The incident has left one home on Washington Street and 29 homes on Grant Street without gas service. Those homes will need to have their individual gas services restored by O&R workers.

A spokesman for the utility said there are five gas servicemen working on the problem, with more on the way.
