For The Birds

Posted on 09 March 2012 by Editor

Creative crafts are always fun. Gourd art is also functional. You can grow your own materials and then express yourself. This popular craft even has its own organization — The American Gourd Society.

And a peek on the arty craft sellers site, Etsy, reveals a cornucopia of creative gourd creations. Join crafter Maria Jones Saturday afternoon for a fun session on making whimsical birdhouses at the Sloatsburg Public Library.

Jones will host a class in decorating gourds for ages 12+ that demonstrates various tricks in decorating gourds, including decoupaging with tissue paper to add a classic feel. The fee is $5 for supplies and registration is required. The Whimsical Birdhouses class takes place Saturday, March 10 at 12 p.m. For more information, call the Sloatsburg Library at 845-753-8344.
