Eagle Scout Honored At Ambulance Corp

Posted on 15 April 2013 by Editor

The Sloatsburg Volunteer Ambulance Corp building was all decked out Sunday, with colorfully decorated tables assembled in the ambulance bay. Another Sloatsburg scout from Boy Scout Troop 2146 was holding his Eagle Scout Court of Honor.

While Ken Hayward and company of Hayward’s Deli delivered a feast of catered goods for the guests, Thomas Lorentz III and his family arrived for the ocassion. Other guests included Sloatsburg Fire Department Quartermaster Paul Paulson, in his fire dress blues, village trustee Dan O’Leary, who would recite Lorentz’s scouting history, and Scoutmaster Thomas Lorentz, Jr.

Troop 46 Color Guard was there to present and retire the colors.

With Lorentz’s Eagle award, Troop ’46 has set an impressive mark by graduating a succession of local Eagle Scouts, including Justin LeanzaDaniel Patrick GreenDaniel O’Leary, Jonathan Kraus, and Matt Leanza, who held his Eagle Court of Honor at the Eagle Valley Firehouse in Tuxedo this past March 16 .

Lorentz’s Eagle Scout project was ambitious, involving a complete renovation of the entire upstairs of the Sloatsburg Ambulance Corp. The entire second floor was cleaned out and stripped down for reconstruction, with plenty of help from Lorentz’s troop buddies, who pitched in for the months-long building project (along with the Cubs from Pack 2146).

Lorentz’s project turned the Ambulance Corps upstair into three rooms that now include a training room, meeting room and a storage room.

“I  wanted to take on this project because when I was a cub scout my den used to have our meeting at the building, and I always felt that they need a bigger meeting area,” said Lorentz in his Eagle proposal for the project.

The project involved a presentation before the Sloatsburg Village Board.

Altogether, Lorentz and company rebuilt the entire second floor of the Ambulance Corps, complete with new walls, electrical wiring, lights, outlets, switches, heating and cooling. The final push took place at the end of February when the entire troop, along with Boy Scout Pack 2146 got together for a bucket brigade to remove all the construction debris and prep for final painting.

Lorentz’s parents made the Eagle Award presentation to their son, who presented Mentor Pins and pins of thanks to all those involved in the project that helped him become a newly minted Eagle Scout.
