Celebrate the Season in Sloatsburg with the Fall Block Party

Posted on 02 October 2019 by Editor

Members of the Sloatsburg Chamber are busy putting the final touches on what is certain to be a colorful Fall Block Party this coming Sunday along Village Walk and the Commuter Lot. The October 6 event celebrates the changing season and also Sloatsburg itself — which will mark its 90th year as a Village this year. Residents voted to form a village on October 7, 1929.

Waistcoat Ruckus and the Twisted Cats from Tuxedo will play live music during the Fall Block Party.

The Village of Sloatsburg has partnered with the Sloatsburg Chamber to celebrate Sloatsburg this fall, as part of it 90th Celebration yearlong series of events and activities, and will host a fireworks display at the Community Fields Sunday evening to cap off the day.

The Fall Block Party runs from 12 noon to 5 p.m. and will take place along Village Walk at the Commuter Lot, with some activities taking place on the lawn Valley Rock Inn. The day features crafts and food vendors, a children’s tent complete with supervised activities and live music by Tuxedo’s Twisted Cats and the acoustic duo Waistcoat Ruckus.

Outragehisss Pets will be on hand from 2-3 p.m. at the Chamber Children’s Tent with a program design to entertain as well as educate, using live exotic animals.

Popular local craft beer house Seven Lakes Station hosts it own Octoberfest next door from 12 to 10 p.m., featuring the Eugene Tyler Band — the band recently kick-off the annual Highland Bluegrass Festival at Harmony Hall with a high-energy show.

The Chamber Chili Contest should be a big draw. Entries are open and for $5 guests can sample the whole lineup and vote on the best. Rococo’s Salon & Barber Shop has donated the chili contest grand prize of $100.

The Fall Chamber Block Party is a big community undertaking by the chamber that has seen a positive response and participation from residents and businesses alike. The chamber has successfully worked to connect businesses and celebrate the community over the last year, helping to revitalize Sloatsburg center village as a place to visit. Many of the businesses along Route 17 collaborate to promote the village — and have been rewarded with increased visitors and store traffic.

Following the Block Party, the Chamber will be involved with a membership renewal campaign while it prepared for the upcoming season and its December Winterfest at Village Walk, which celebrates the holidays and includes an assortment of crafty vendors.
