Banff Gear RaffleHere’s a great example of leveraging local assets. The popular Banff Mountain Film Festival hits Suffern and the Lafayette Theater this Tuesday and Wednesday and will draw people near and wide to these parts.

Banff Film FestFolks at the Suffern Chamber of Commerce and New York New Jersey Trail Conference teamed up with Ramsey Outdoors to create the Great Gear Raffle event at the Suffern Community Center, which will run both Tuesday and Wednesday before the Banff Film Festival.

See the Banff film schedule here.

The big tent event of outdoor vendors and displays and activities expands the film festival with creative local programming while providing an opportunity to engage the community.

Alexandria Lopez Evans of Kreative Juice House is the energy behind Explore Harriman showcase. The free event was able to solve the riddle of growing the Banff Festival and involving more partners without crowding out the Lafayette Theater and selection of films themseles.

The Community Center adventure showcase is free and takes place from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., when the action moves to the Lafayette Theater for a night of adventure films.

Some proceeds from the Great Gear Raffle go to support the Trail Conference -- that place that blazes the parks for people to enjoy. The Raffle includes all sorts of participation by local businesses and outfits.
