Get Crafty With Gifts This Season

Swing into Saturday by joining the Friends of the Sloatsburg Pubic Library at their 4th Annual Holiday Craft & Vendor Fair from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

“We have a lot of new vendors,” said Annmarie McAnany, director of children’s programming for the the library, who many also might know as manager of the Tuxedo Farmers’ Market. “We’re trying to support our local artisans and businesses,” she said.

This year’s craft fair features more than 25 interesting vendors who will be offering selections of various handmade goods, from cosmetics, cool alpaca wool products to silver jewelry, personalized holiday ornaments and craftily constructed chocolate baskets. There will also be a Food Pantry table staffed by two industrious youth, Erin McAnany and Emma Nugent, who will be trying to raise money for a good cause.

The Sloatsburg Library Friends group devised the fair as a way to engage local residents and the business community, and to help bring an eclectic array of handmade goods to the area thereby giving library patrons and Sloatsburg residents a local place to holiday shop. The idea has since spread throughout the area, creating a calendar crush of library vendor fairs at this time of year.

“Our Friends group was the first one to do this as a fundraiser,” said Sloatsburg Public Library Director Mary Blake. “And it’s become a popular event.” Word is the Nyack Library had to change its scheduled vendor fair date so it wouldn’t compete with other fairs in the area.

So, when you go out and about in the village this Saturday, think local. Think the library. There might be that perfect  hand crafted gift and eclectic must-have purchase.

While browsing vendor tables, look for the Sloatsburg Senior Center cookbook. Rose Nattini, president of the Sloatsburg Senior Center, and company will be selling their own secret recipes for most any kind of food dish imaginable. Nattini sat the seniors’ group down throughout the spring and made them work work work until they had a fine book of home recipes.

The Friends of the Sloatsburg Public Library is a volunteer community group whose mission is to support the library through fundraising efforts and other activities that go toward improving the quality of the local library experience.
