It’s a new and improved edition of the instantly popular Base Camp Tuxedo, co-sponsored by MyHarriman and the Tuxedo Chamber of Commerce. Saturday’s Speaker and Suds: Climbing Edition will feature a Harriman State Park rock climbing presentation from the folks at the Powerlinez.

The Torne Valley Climbers’ Coalition has established Torne Valley as a great recreational destination for rock climbing near NYC.

The Powerlinez is a group that initiated and manages rock climbing in Torne Valley at the base of Torne Mountain, and, working with the Palisades Interstate Parks Commission, carved out a unique climbing experience in Torne’s delicate ecosystem.

Expect a good crowd of co-adventurers to show up at the Tuxedo Train Station, where there will be curated Hudson Valley craft beer, Adirondack Mountain Club’s Climbing Committee Chair Aneta Rogoz and Norm Rasmussun from Torne Valley Climbers’ Coalition will speak about the right way to climb in Harriman.

The event begins at 4:45 p.m. so that participants can finish up their park adventures, drop in to the Train Station and then have the opportunity to catch a train out afterwards.

You don’t have to be a climber or trail adventurer to attend. If you’re from the local area and want to experience the grassroots effort to get Tuxedo and Sloatsburg on the right track to become park gateway communities, drop in for a beer and listen. And introduce yourself.
